JEE Main 2017 New Changes

The authority has announced many changes in the JEE Main 2017 examination. Changes has been done in minimum percentage criteria and 12th board marks weightage.  There will be no minimum percentage criteria to appear in JEE Main examination. The 12th board marks will not be considered for calculating the JEE Main 2017 score.

JEE Main 2017 Application Form

JEE Main 2017 application form will be provided through online mode only. It can be filled and submitted through JEE Main 2017 online portal. The application form will be released in the first week of December 2016 tentatively. Candidates can pay the application fee debit/credit card or e-challan of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank. Corrections in the application form will be provided for two weeks in the second half of January, 2017 tentatively.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should have passed 12th class examination with PCM subjects in 2015 or 2016. Appearing candidates may also apply.
  • The qualifying examination (12th) should be passed with minimum 5 subjects.
  • Candidates belonging from general category should have age on or after 01 October, 1992 and 01, October 1987 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Exam Pattern

JEE Main is conducted for two papers, paper-1 for B.E./B.Tech and paper-2 for B.Arch. Paper-1 will contain 90 questions from PCM while paper-2 will contain 30 questions from mathematics, 50 questions from aptitude test and 2 questions of drawing test. There will be a negative marking of 1/4 mark for each incorrect answer.

JEE Main Admit Card 2017

JEE Main 2017 admit card will be provided through the official portal of JEE Main 2017. It will be available to download from 2nd week of March 2017 onwards. To download the hall ticket, candidates need to enter the application number, DOB and security pin.

JEE Main Result 2017

CBSE will declare the JEE Main 2017 result in the last week of April 2017. Candidates can check their results by logging into the official portal of JEE Main 2017. After the announcement of result, rank card will be available for downloading. The rank list will be released in April month based on JEE Main 2017 scores.

JEE Main Counselling 2017

JEE Main 2017 counselling for admission to 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) will be done supervised by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA). The counselling will commence from first week of July 2017 tentatively.

JEE Main Seat Allotment 2016

JEE Main Seat Allotment 2016The joint entrance examination (JEE Main) is held for those candidates who are interested in taking admission in government and non government engineering colleges of the country. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announces this admission in place of AIEEE and IIT JEE. JEE is being conducted in two parts JEE-Main and JEE- Advanced.

JEE Main Seat Allotment- CBSE New Delhi will upload the JEE Main seat allotment. According to JEE Main 2016 notification seats will be allotted to the candidates on the basis of All India Rank.

Reservation and Categories

Indian Nationals belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them in accordance with the rules of government of India. In JEE Main some of the seats are reserved by the government for the candidates belonging to scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes( ST) and persons with disability (PWD) candidates. The categories and extent of reservation is given below:

  • Other backward classes belonging to the Non-Creamy layer (OBC) – 27% of seats are reserved in every course.
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in every course.
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in every course
  • Persons with Disability (PWD) – 3% of seats in every category, viz, General, OBC, SC and ST.

The benefit of reservation will be given only to those castes and tribes that are mentioned in the respective central list of corresponding states published by the Government of India.

Seats which are not filled in the OBC category can be allotted to general category candidates, whereas seats remaining vacant under SC/ ST categories shall not be allotted to candidates belonging to other categories. The reservation for PWD candidates is horizontal and hence unfilled seats can be allotted to candidates belonging to the respective categories i.e. untitled SC PWD seats will be allotted to candidates belonging to the SC categories and so on.

The paper 1 will contain total 360 maximum marks and paper 2 contains 460 maximum marks. Each objective type question will carry 4 marks. Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for every correct answer. There will be negative marking in the JEE Main exam, so candidates are advised to answer only those questions for which they are sure. 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. If the candidates have marked two answers (from which one is correct) for one question, this will also lead to the negative marking. In case the candidates have not marked any answer against any questions, the marks will not be deducted or allotted.

JEE Main Exam Schedule

The paper 1 of JEE Main exam will be organized in both online and offline mode. The paper 2 will be organized only in offline mode. The offline examination (paper 1 and paper 2) will conduct on 3rd April, 2016  and online examination (paper 1) will held on 9th & 10nd April, 2016. Duration of the JEE Main exam will be 3 hours. In offline mode, paper 1 exam will start from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and paper 2 will start from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. In online mode the paper will be conducted in two shifts, i.e. first shift (from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) and second shift (from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM).
